NOTE:  There is always work to complete in Socials 9.  Please make sure that you take your books home every night and that you carry a memory stick for taking computer work home.

Homework for Block C-Week of May 14 to May 18

HW for Friday, May 18th

1.  Please report to Room 155 for period 3 in order to complete FOUR computer internet assignments.

2.  For those who missed Thursday's class, you will need to go over the Video questions (Napoleon:  End of a Dictator) in your Ch 4 package.  The first six questions can be answered without viewing the video, simply use your notes and information provided in the textbook.

3.  Time was provided on Thursday to check work completed to date in the Ch 4 worksheet/handout package.  Please go through what you have completed and write out all of the Comprehension Questions if you have matched the numbers correctly.  Do the same for the Main Ideas and Concepts section and fill in your two Ch 4 puzzles.  The MIND MAP near the end of your package should also be completed.  The three fill in the blank pages near the front of your package (use your textbook to complete) should also be now done.  Your timeline at the beginning of Ch 4 should also be filled in.

4.  We will complete the remainder of the Ch 4 powerpoint presentations during period 4 in Room 122.

1.  NOTES taken for Ch 4 powerpoint presentations need to be setup if students missed today's class.  Please use your textbook to begin the notetaking process for Ch 4.

2.  Chapter 3 Test will take place on Thursday during class.  Students must hand in their CH 3 NOTES (good quality & good handwriting or typed format is important) for Thursday.  NO EXCEPTIONS will be provided.  You must have your work with you as the section is worth 50% of your test.

3.  Chapter 3 package is also to be handed in on Thursday at the end of your test.  It can be used as part of your OPEN BINDER/OPEN TEXTBOOK test format.  (worth 15%).  No EXCEPTIONS will be provided.

 1.  Chapter 3 test to take place on Thursday, May 10th.  (Open binder/Open textbook format)  Students will need to hand in a complete set of notes for Ch 3 (worth 50%) along with handing in the CH 3 Worksheet Package (worth 15%) on Thursday.  NOTE:  The test will be (worth 35%).

1.  Those students who were unable to focus on the notetaking in class ON WEDNESDAY will need to have all notes for Ch 3 ready for HANDING IN by next week's Ch 3 Test Day  (Wed, May 9th or Thurs-May 10th.)  All RED headings provided in Ch 3 (textbook) will need to be listed within YOUR HANDWRITTEN notes on loose leaf paper.  (We have spent several days working on presentations in class.)  Use the assigned powerpoint list for CH 3 to identify the headings. 

2.  Begin to fill in the empty sections of your CH 3 Review Package.  This will be handed in as PART of your UNIT TEST for Ch 3.

Homework for Thursday, May 3

1.  If you were absent from class on Tuesday, we have been going over student presentations for Chapter 3.  Take some loose leaf paper and create a set of notes on each topic from the Intro in ch 3 to end of "The Enlightenment".

2.  More presentations will continue on Wednesday in Room 153.  The deadline for handing in your TAKE HOME TEST for Ch 2 has now passed.  Only those who had special permission will be able to hand in this unit test today.

2.  Those who did not hand in their visual drawings for Chapters 3 & 4 (Thursday's class assignment) for the two stories from Ch 3 & 4.

3.  INVENTORY CHECKLISTS for Chapters 3 & 4 need to be filled out as soon as possible.  (handouts & worksheets)

4.  The Ch 2 "take home unit test" MUST be returned with a parent/guardian signature for Monday, April 30th.  (Period 5)

1.  Begin to complete your TAKE HOME OPEN BOOK/BINDER UNIT TEST for Ch 2.  (YOU should spend 20 minutes each night this week to complete your test.)  This test must be returned for next Monday's class.  (April 30th-Period 2)

2.  Please also make sure that you have all of your PowerPoint presentation work set for today's FINAL computer day.  The quality and quantity of your research and activity planning will be extremely important to have ready.

1.  READINGS for your assigned Ch 3 and/or Ch 4 presentation work should be done for today's class.  You will have two more days of computer lab time in order to complete the POWERPOINT work for Ch 3 and/or Ch 4.

2.  Your TAKE HOME CHAPTER 2 UNIT TEST  will be handed out in class on Tuesday.  Strick and specific instructions have been provided in order for you to return this unit test for Monday, April 30th class. 

3.  Those away on Friday, April 23 for the CH 2 video-today will be last opportunity to complete this activity at lunch time in Room 153.  Those who did not complete (or have but were absent) the worksheet package for Ch 2 can also stop by to check work at lunch time on Tuesday.

1.  Be sure to have all of your Chapter 2 package worksheets done and checked for completion.  Those absent for Friday's video will need to complete this activity at lunch in Room 153 today.

2.  UNIT TEST discussion took place on Friday, April 20.  Everyone will be provided with a TAKE HOME TEST for Ch 2 on Tuesday, April 24, 2012.  A parent/guardian signature will be required upon completion of your test and the deadline is:  Monday, April 30, 2012.  (Must hand in to start Block A on that day.)

3.  Chapter 3 & 4 presentation assignments will take place today.  Packages for both Chapters will also be provided.

Block C 

 Homework for Friday, April 20

 

1.  Be sure to REVIEW all of the work that was completed during Thursday's double block for Chapter 2. (Lots of worksheets were filled in and reviewed) Today's video worksheet will pull together the various topics and events regarding Ch 2.  For those who will be away, it is important to come and view the video at lunch time on Monday or make arrangements to stay after school on Monday.

2.  A TAKE HOME UNIT TEST for Chapter 2 will be assigned early next week.  This means that you will be able to complete this test within a specific amount of time (outside of class time) and then return the test with a parent/guardian signature to confirm that you have completed the test at home in the ASSIGNED time.

3.  Chapter 3 & Chapter 4 presentation lists will be handed out to students today.  We will use the same setup to complete powerpoint presentations for both chapters mentioned.  The Chapter 2 powerpoint project was quite successful so, it will be the format for the next two chapters.  It will be extremely important for students to do their reading and preparation as quickly as possible.  Activity ideas will also be provided in the form of packages similiar to what was provided in Chapter 2.

Homework for Block A--Week of April 16th to 20th

1.  A.  Monday & Tuesday, April 16 & 17-Chapter 2 presentations and activities will be completed by students.  All students are expected to have READ Chapter 2 in preparation for these presentations.

1.  B.  For those students who were not ASSIGNED a presentation section, work from the Chapter 2 package was to be completed.  (Crossword puzzle, reading of all sections found in Chapter 2 of your textbook, matching of Main Ideas & Concepts + Comprehension, completing the Important people & group worksheet, etc) need to be worked on.

1.  A new updated interim was handed out in class today (Monday, April 2, 2012) and anyone with 59% or less has been ASKED to have a parent sign the interim.  RETURN as soon as possible.

2.  All work from 1 to 30 on the most recent interim is required to be completed by Thursday, April 5, 2012.  (End of the day).  The cutoff for Term 3 is April 5th so for those who need to complete work need to do so by this date.

3.  Computer lab time is available at lunch on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, in Room 153, this week.  You can access the library on Wednesday, April 4th at lunch.

4.  Extra assistance is available before school on: Tues & Thurs this week.  After school assistance is available on Wed, Thurs of this week.  (April 2nd week!)

3.  On Tuesday, March 27th ALL students were given a THINGS TO DO LIST for Chapter 5.  This info was also provided before Spring Break so that sutdents could complete the READING LISTS for Chapter 5 and some of the hard copy assignments from home.

4.  Computer lab time was setu and used on Monday/Tuesday-March 26 & 27 in order to complete Chapter 5 electronic assignment work, as well as, time to work on late and missing assignments from the most recent interim.

PLEASE NOTE:  It is advisable that your son/daughter needs to be bringing home SS 9 work on a daily basis.  It is extremely important to stay up to date on work, review work completed in class on a daily basis and to avoid not having work at home when a student may be ill.

All work is posted online every day.

2.  Chapter 6 powerpoint assignment on TWO REGIONS of North America.  Please ensure that all of your rough notes have been completed.   We will complete this electronic section on Monday, March 26, 2012 in Room 155.

3.  Some students have other Chapter 6 computer assignments to also finish.   This can also be done at home for the second and third items on the list.

4.  READ all of Chapter 5 (Topic:  The Industrial Revolution)-Your FULL Ch 5 package has the reading list and other worksheets to READ and do.  Please either type up your answers to questions or neatly handwrite your work on loose leaf paper for some of the Ch 5 worksheets.  This was gone over in class on Thursday, March 8th.

Homework for Block C -- Wednesday, February 29, 2012

1.  All "hard copy notes" for the electronic powerpoint assignment today need to be ready for class.  Computer lab time has been booked for Room 155, therefore, it is important for students to be prepared to complete the typing of this assignment.  There is only one block of time set aside for this work.  Extra "out of class time" is available on Thursday at lunch in Room 153.  Those with an LS block can also used that time to finish up this electronic assignment.

2.  Thursday will be used to write a UNIT TEST on Chapter 7 in Room 122 during Block C.  The format will be an Open book style as per our discussion from last week in class.

3.  All late and missing work from Monday's interim is important to have done by this Thursday.

1.  An updated interim was handed out in class on Monday, February 27, 2012.  Those students with missing work need to have completed all work by this Thursday.

Homework for Block C -- Wednesday, February 22, 2012

1.  The two diagrams from page 161 should be drawn and labeled for today's class.  NOTE:  Basic colored pencils are required for this assignment.  Some class time will be provided for students to work on this.  For those planning to be away on Friday, it is important to have this assignment done and handed in on Thursday.

2.  Notetaking in "draft format" is to be worked on for homework.  There will also be class time to put info together for next week's powerpoint project that will be completed in the computer lab.  TWO regions out of eight need to be selected and READ over.  Students will need their textbooks for this assignment.

3.  Late and missing work from Monday's interim should also be finished.  Extra computer time & assistance is available at lunch times on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in Room 153. 

4.  There will be a Unit Test on Chapters 1 & 7 next week.  All collected assignment work will be returned to students today in order for everyone to organize their binders/duo tangs.

1.  Course programming booklets and forms were handed out during period 1 today.  Students have been asked to ensure that this information is taken home and gone over.  The Grade FORM for course selections NEEDS to be brought back for the computer course selection process on Thursday, February 23, 2012.

2.  Ch 6--Regional Geography of North America worksheet package (Fill in the blanks for 1 to 24) needs to be finished and handed in to start Tuesday's class.

3.  Ch 6--Two diagrams from page 161 will be worked on in class today.  (Titles, figure numbers, your name, labels and coloring required)

4.  SS 9 interims were handed out during period 1 on Monday.  All work that is missing or late will need to be completed ASAP.  (Extra assistance and computer time are available on Tues, Thurs & Fri at lunch time in Room 153).

  • WORK on ALL Late and missing work listed on your "DRAFT INTERIM" that was handed out on Monday, Feb 13th.  Be prepared to spend time on the computer over the lunch hour today, if you can't access a computer at home for any of the late or missing interim work.

2.  Organize your binder or duo tang.  Please note:  Work completed for Ch 1 & 7 will be checked for completion, neatness and organization some time next week.

3.  Those absent on Wednesday will need to complete a VIDEO worksheet at lunch time today.  All handouts/worksheets will need to be picked up from me before class starts today.

3.  We did work on two of three Internet assignments on Thursday.  Those absent should be spending "out of class time" on Monday to get caught up.  (I am available in Room 153 at lunch time and after school for assistance.)

1.  All 5 First Nations Groups (worksheet package) needs to be REVIEWED for today.  Some students were not very successful at Wednesday's classroom review.  Please remember that it is extremely important to be prepared for each day's work.  REVIEW your work on a daily basis.

Students also worked on the two charts for Chapter 7.  If you were ABSENT from class, it is important to work on the two charts.

1.  All FIVE Native Groups of Canada worksheets should NOW be finished and checked. (This work was posted on the whiteboard in Room 122 for students to access during class time on Tuesday, Feb 7th.) YOU need to be working on their two CHART worksheets that were handed out in class on Tuesday, February 7, 2012. 

NOTE:  HOMEWORK is a daily thing.  Please ensure that you take your materials home every night.  Call a friend if you have been away or check online to find out what is homework for the next day.  If you have not completed the necessary work then it is expected that you "GIVE UP" your lunch time or after school time to obtain the assistance required.

Assistance is available in Room 153 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at lunch time.  AFTER SCHOOL assistance is available on the same days between 3:15 pm and 4:15 pm.

2.  We will be using the computer lab on Thursday, February 9, 2012 to complete three different assignments.  Please be on time for this.  PLEASE go to Room 155 rather than 122 to start period 3.

NOTE:This is the last day for students to hand in late or missing work for Chapter 1 & the Map of the World from Chapter 2.  Extra assistance will be available at lunch time and after school in Room 153.

1.  Finish your Five NATIVE GROUPS of CANADA worksheet package for today's class. 

2.   Those away on Monday, Feb 6th need to make sure that the story for Ch 7 has been read.  (Pages 182 to 184) and that the INTRODUCTION to Ch 7 (pages 186 & 187) have also been read.

3.   All late & missing Chapter 1 & Chapter 7 work needs to be handed in for class today.

1.  b.  Handed out an ACTIVITY EXERCISE for Ch 1 on Friday.  (three pages and one envelope)  Students were asked to separate each page into four small pieces with a total of 12 paper cards as the final count.  Important people, events, vocab or items were labelled and described for Chapter 1.  Four cards needed to be finished for this activity.

2.  Those who didn't give me a copy of their signed PARENT E-mail Form need to also do that for today's class.

3.  Map of the World (form) & actual map needs to be finished for today's class.  Students were given LOTS of class time on Friday to complete this and hand in during class. 

4.  We also started Chapter 7 on Friday.  You were asked to at least READ about the first two Native Groups of Canada from this chapter.  A worksheet package was handed out in class that you need to bring for today.

1.  Make sure that the following worksheets have been FULLY completed for today's class:

  • A New View of the World

Please make sure that the CHART for all IMPORTANT PEOPLE is also completely done and READY to hand in for today's class.

2.  All Main Ideas and Concepts that we matched by number should also have questions handwritten for this particular worksheet.  THE SAME GOES FOR the Comprehension worksheet that we matched by number on Wednesday.  All questions are to be written out for each.

3.  Be sure to have READ over the two REVIEW worksheets that you picked up in class on Thursday.  We will complete both together in class today.  Complete in pencil if you are away on Friday for the two review worksheets.

4.  Some students have not handed in the following items:

  • Map of Canada and form (overdue!)

  • Signed Parent E-Mail Form  (overdue!)

5.  For those students away on Friday, a Map of the World was handed out to you.  ONLY write your answers on the FORM-not the map.  You will either need to use a hard copy atlas or go online ane use the website address listed at the top of the form that you were given.  Do your work in pencil.  Print your name on the map.

6.  SKIM READ all of Chapter 7 for Monday, February 6, 2012.
